Apus is the Swift, the fastest bird on our planet that never lands directly on the ground.

I did not see, as I was hunting for jays.

On February 19, we met on the road next to Parque Natural Ria Lagartos (Ria Lagartos, Yucatan).
On February 26, one bird in a tree near Tenam Puente, Chiapas.
1 March Turtle Doves on the outskirts of a village on the shores of the lagoon near Arista (Arista, Chiapas).
On March 5, we met among the fields in the mountains of the South Sierra Madre (Sierra Madre del Sur, Oaxaca).
Seen near Monte Alban (Oaxaca) on 6 March.

On March 2, we met in the forest and at a watering hole near the Canal Principal (Oaxaca).
We met on March 5 in the mountains of the South Sierra Madre (Sierra Madre del Sur, Oaxaca).
6 March fed on land near Monte Alban, Oaxaca.

Synonym: Brown earthen dove.

On February 19, we met on the road next to Parque Natural Ria Lagartos (Ria Lagartos, Yucatan).
On February 24, in Yashchilan, birds built a nest under the eaves of the guest house (Yaxchilan, Chiapas).
Sighted on the Atlantic slope of the Eastern Sierra Madre (Tuxtepec, Oaxaca) on 8 March.

February 20 are common on the road 10 km from Calotmul, Yucatan.
On March 3, we met in Huatulco (National Park Huatulco, Oaxaca).
March 8, a pair of birds in a tree, one with a twig in its beak (Atlantic slope of the Eastern Sierra Madre, Tuxtepec, Oaxaca).

Blackbird Cuckoo (Lesser Ground-cuckoo, Morococcyx erythropygus)

On 26 February, one bird in a bush in a clearing near Tenam Puente (Chiapas).
We only heard and saw a flying cuckoo from afar. We never got a good overview.

On 19 February, one cuckoo was observed along the road near Parque Natural Ria Lagartos (Ria Lagartos, Yucatan).

95 Gray-bellied piya (Squirrel Cuckoo, Piaya cayana thermophila )

Synonym: Piaia, Long-tailed cuckoo.

On 18 and 19 February, we saw solitary cuckoos. Photo taken next to Parque Natural Ria Lagartos (Ria Lagartos, Yucatan).
On February 23, we were greeted at the entrance to Palenque (Pre-Hispanic City and National Park of Palenque, Chiapas).

Synonym: Mangrove American Cuckoo.

On 19 February, one bird during a boat trip in Rio Lagartos (Parque Natural Ria Lagartos, Ria Lagartos, Yucatan).

Synonym: Mangrove scoop.

Seen in trees along the lagoon near Arista on 1 March (Arista, Chiapas).

On February 26, one bird was scared from the ruins of the pyramids, then it was met in the trees in Tenam Puente (Chiapas).

Synonym: Central American Dwarf Sych.

Seen on a tree in Yaxchilan (Chiapas) on 24 February. Little birds called out to the owl.

98 (841) Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl, Glaucidium brasilianum)

Synonyms: Pygmy Sych of Rigway, Ginger Owl, Glaucidium ridgwayi.

Sometimes subspecies of the owl from North and Central America are combined into the superspecies Ridgway's Pygmy-owl, in addition to this, the owl from Oaxaca is isolated into a subspecies G. b. intermedium.

On February 18, one bird flew to the whistle in the Botanical Garden (Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo).
Felipe Carrillo Puerto (Quintana Roo) was observed near the town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto in the evening on 20 February.
On March 2, an owl was photographed near the Canal Principal (Oaxaca).

Seen on the ground near Calotmul (Yucatan) on 20 February. Without photo.
The nightjar immediately flew off behind the fence.

Synonym: Collar American Swift.

On March 4, we met in the mountains of the South Sierra Madre (Sierra Madre del Sur, Oaxaca).
Birds were seen near Monte Alban (Oaxaca) on 6 March.

Mexican Hermit Hummingbird (Mexican Hermit, Phaethornis mexicanus)

On March 4, we met in the mountains of the South Sierra Madre (Sierra Madre del Sur, Oaxaca).

Long-tailed hermit hummingbird (Long-tailed Hermit, Phaethornis superciliosus)

Synonym: Sunny hummingbird.

Seen in Palenque (Pre-Hispanic City and National Park of Palenque, Chiapas) on 23 February.
My photos have not survived.

(Stripe-throated Hermit, Phaethornis striigularis saturatus)

Synonym: Tiny sunny hummingbird, Phaethornis adolphi, Phaethornis longuemareus adolphi.

Sometimes they are distinguished as a separate type - Boucard's Hermit (Phaethornis adolphi). Name adolphi is synonymous with saturatus.

On the list of Sergei Volkov - (Little Hermit, Phaethornis longuemareus). Now this name is attributed to the inhabitants of Venezuela.

Seen in Palenque (Pre-Hispanic City and National Park of Palenque, Chiapas) on 23 February.
My photos have not survived.

Synonym: Campylopterus curvipennis pampa, Blue-winged Saberwing, Nightingale Saber-wing.

Endemic to the Yucatan Peninsula.

C. pampa is split from C. curvipennis (Peterson & Navarro-Siguenza 2009, Gonzalez et al 2011)

On February 21, hummingbirds were observed on a road 12 km east of the city of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo.
Photographed in Calakmul Biosphere Reserve on February 22nd.
Sighted in Yaxchilan (Chiapas) on 24 February.

Endemic (Eastern Mexico and northern Central America).

On February 28, we met at the Sumidero Canyon (Canon del Sumidero National Park, Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas).

Synonym: Cynanthus latirostris doubledayi, Broad-billed Hummingbird.

Endemic to Mexico (Guerrero, Oaxaca and Chiapas).

On March 2, we met near the Canal Principal (Oaxaca).
Frequently seen in Huatulco (National Park Huatulco, Oaxaca) on 3 March.

On February 18, they were often seen in the forest south of Cancun (Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo).
On February 21, we met on the road 5 km east of the city of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo.

B Amazilia yucatanensis cerviniventris

On the morning of February 28, we met in the trees along the road at the Sumidero Canyon (Canon del Sumidero National Park, Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas).

February 25 and 26 was observed in the small garden of the Laureles Hotel in Comitan de Dominguez, Chiapas.
February 26 in the trees near Tenam Puente (Chiapas).

Synonym: Saucerottia beryllina.

On March 4, we met in the mountains of the South Sierra Madre (Sierra Madre del Sur, Oaxaca).
