A bird from the numerous order of Falconiformes, inhabiting the meadows and swamps of East Asia, North China and Mongolia.

This bird got its name for its characteristic coloring: black head, back and middle of the wing, white plumage of part of the wings, upper tail and abdominal region. These birds build their nests on the ground, using shrubs and dense vegetation of marshlands as shelter.

The main diet of piebald harriers is quite diverse, it can be small rodents, insectivorous animals, small birds, frogs and various insects.
